Wallace and Gromit Return

Aardman Animation’s most popular characters will be returning to our screens this Christmas. The fourth short film to feature Wallace and Gromit is called “A Matter of Loaf and Death”. In the new feature (co-written by Bob Baker who also co-wrote The Wrong Trousers and A Close Shave) our intrepid stop-motion heroes become Bakers.

Nick Park has said that he is pleased to be making a film for the British market:

I don’t feel like I’m making a film for a kid in some suburb of America — and being told they’re not going to understand a joke, or a northern saying.

The film, which at half an hour is shorter than The Curse of the Were-Rabbit, will be broadcast on the BBC. Park has described the latest adventure as a classic ‘who-doughnut’ mystery [groan]. Wallace’s new love interest is called Piella Bakewell and is played by Coronation Street star Sally Lindsay.

I LOVE Wallace and Gromit. I guess I’ll have to have one of my UK counterparts mail a DVD to me in America when they become available.

Most kids in an American suburb probably would appreciate a Northern “Wallace & Gromit” joke. American kids love learning new stuff through comedy. Unfortunately, American Corporate Suits are always second guessing the intellect of their viewers. Would these decision makes have released Monty Python, Little Britain or even Hot Fuzz? All have been really successful in the USA.

“Little Britain” has been successful? That show is downright horrible to me an I’ve been a big fan of British comedy since I was a very young child (Benny Hill, Monty Python, and others). HBO should send that one back across the Atlantic.

Anyway, my stepson will be glad to hear of the new Wallace & Gromit. I’ve probably watched the Were-rabbit movie a dozen times because of him.

I love Wallace and Gromit too,Mike! I have the movie Wallace and Gromit:The Curse of the Were-Rabbit. My favorite part is that Gromit chases the were-rabbit and sprays water on Wallace and Lady Tottington.
