Tourist Spends 2 Hours Clinging to the Outside of a Train [video]

Chad Vance is a 19 year old from Alaska who traveled to Australia for an adventure. He was traveling on a train called The Ghan bound for Alice Springs that had stopped at Port Augusta. Chad was a little late back from his rest stop, found that the train was leaving without him and decided to jump onto the outside of the train. Unfortunately for Chad he had no access to the inside of the train so he was stuck on the small stairwell.

He spent over two hours clinging to the outside of the train in sub zero temperatures dressed in a t-shirt and jeans fearing for his life. Eventually Marty Wells who was working on the train heard his cries and stopped the train.

“Chad is a very lucky guy – when we rescued him his skin was white and his lips were blue. We were still about three hours away from our next scheduled stop and in that time, he could have easily died of hypothermia or lost his grip and fallen to his death if he hadn’t been rescued.”
