Coffee Prices May Rise 26 Percent This Year

More bad news may be on the way to those suffering from the problems with the economy. The head of Brazil’s roasters association Nathan Herszkowicz has forecast the price rises. He says that the increasing price of fertilizer has lead to coffee farmers using less which, combined with a particularly dry 2007 has lead to a shortage of stock. Brazil is the largest exporter of coffee beans and this reduction in supply is likely to lead to an increase in demand and price.

The eccomonic climate has lead to people increasingly brewing their own coffee rather than buying from coffee chains. The affordability of home brewing equipment must have had an impact on this.

Some coffee shops have decided that having their baristas serve coffee in bikinis might help boost sales. This has worked although it seems that surprise, surprise these kind of coffee shops tend to attract some dodgy patrons.
