Fosters.com reports on a couple from Rochester honored by their friends and colleagues for always being there when a child needed a place to stay:
Where many foster parents would offer assistance In times of need for one or two instances, the Brissards fostered more than 100 children of all ages.
Instantly surrounded by the many well wishers All Diane could say was “I hate surprises,” which pleased the organizers of the affair.
A small program ensued, beginning with their friend Cheryl Wachtel reading a special citation from N.H. Governor John Lynch in which he congratulated them for their efforts and for going above and beyond that which would be expected.
Karen Magowan of NHDCYF Rochester spoke, referring to the 20 years she has been familiar with Diane and Sonny. “Congratulations for all your years of dedication, for all the lives you’ve touched, and all the times you’ve given a child a safe place.” Magowan continued “and I am eternally grateful to you both. Every time I cringed as I made an emergency call at 4 or 5 in the afternoon for immediate help, you were always there for the children.” In response to the many plaudits given, a taciturn Diane could only say “thanks, it has always been a pleasure.” Foster parents make themselves available in times of need, often not knowing how long their services will be needed.
See Fosters.com for the full story. As well as fostering children, they also brought up three of their own, but now they are in their 70′s, it’s time to take it a little easier and who can blame them.
