60% Of The World’s Population Has A Mobile Phone
4 Mar
There are now around 4.1 billion mobile-phone subscriptions around the world and 60% of the population now owns a mobile phone. This figure has been increased by the huge popularity of mobile phones in developing countries. According to The International Telecommunication Union who conducted the study 23% of the world’s population now has internet access.
Around two thirds of the Mobile Phones in use are in developing countries. Whilst smartphones and cameraphones become the norm in developed nations phones are often shared or support multiple SIMs elsewhere. Being connected offers benefits including the ability to open a bank account or at least be contactable where other systems are not in place.
“The spread of mobile cellular services and technologies has made great strides towards connecting the previously unconnected.”

Soon we will be able to pay for goods using a mobile phone as well as having constant internet access. Mobile phones will become even more ingrained as part of our day to day life keeping us connected at all times. This is, depending on your point of view (and perhaps age?) either a very good or very bad thing.
